Where should the clinic contact you?

One Irish clinic gets your enquiry, nobody else. They contact you to arrange a consultation with a surgeon. Nothing is booked unless you say yes.

Thank you

Your enquiry is on its way to one Irish clinic. Here's what happens next:

  1. Today. We pass your answers to one clinic whose bariatric surgeons are on the Medical Council's Specialist Register. No one else gets them.
  2. Usually within two working days. The clinic rings or texts you to arrange a first consultation.
  3. At the consultation. A surgeon and the team assess you, explain your options and give you a written quote. Nothing is booked unless you say yes.

Changed your mind? Email hello@gastricsleeve.ie and we'll delete your enquiry and tell the clinic.

Typical self-pay prices in Ireland. Your quote depends on your assessment; ask what it includes before you compare.

What's included

  • Consultations with the surgeon and the dietitian, and often a psychologist
  • Tests before surgery: bloods, and sometimes a scan or a camera test
  • The operation: surgeon, anaesthetist, theatre and staplers
  • One to three nights in hospital
  • Follow-up visits and dietitian reviews, at least for the first year in most packages

What pushes it up or down

  • Up: a longer stay, a more complex operation, revision surgery, more aftercare in the package
  • Up: tests or treatment for other conditions before surgery
  • Down: 20% tax relief on what you pay yourself
  • Down: health insurance, if your plan lists the operation and you meet its criteria
  • Not in most quotes: vitamins for life, and any excess skin surgery later

Questions

Questions people ask before they enquire

Is the eligibility check really free?

Yes. It's free and there's no obligation. Your BMI is worked out on the page and nothing is sent unless you choose to send your answers to a clinic.

Who gets my details?

One Irish clinic, and only if you tick the consent box. We never sell your details or send them to a list of clinics. Privacy notice.

Are you a clinic?

No. We're an independent guide and introduction service. We don't carry out surgery or give medical advice. The clinic's surgeon assesses you and decides with you.

Will I be pushed into surgery?

No. The clinic contacts you to arrange a consultation, and nothing is booked unless you say yes. A good team will also tell you if surgery isn't right for you.

Is the consultation free?

Some clinics charge a consultation fee and some take it off the price if you go ahead. The clinic tells you before you book anything.

How quickly can I have surgery privately?

Usually within weeks of your first consultation, after the assessment. On the HSE, waits can run to years.

What if my BMI is under 35?

Weight loss surgery isn't usually offered, but there are other options, such as a gastric balloon or a weight-loss medicine through your GP. The check explains them.

Can I use my health insurance?

Many Irish hospital plans cover listed bariatric operations when you meet the plan's criteria and get pre-approval. A waiting period of up to five years can apply if you had obesity when you joined. Insurance explained.
